Crystal Lake Police Conduct Crash Investigation
Crystal Lake, IL – On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 9:14 PM, Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded to the vicinity of Route 31 and Three Oaks Road for the report of a four vehicle crash involving injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Mazda SUV was driving westbound Three Oaks Road toward Route 31 at a high rate of speed when it disregarded a traffic control light, entered the intersection, and collided with two sedans heading southbound Route 31.
After making contact with the two sedans the Mazda continued through the intersection and collided head-on with an SUV that was eastbound Three Oaks Road just west of Route 31.
The drivers of the two sedans suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals.
The driver of the SUV suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
The driver of the Mazda fled the scene and was later apprehended by the East Dundee Police Department without further incident.
The driver of the Mazda suffered minor injuries, was treated at a hospital, and taken into custody by Crystal Lake Police.
A portion of the intersection of Route 31 and Three Oaks Road was shut down for approximately six hours while emergency personnel investigated the incident.
The driver of the Mazda, identified as Deondrae L. Clements (35) of Elgin, was arrested and charged with:
- Failure to Report Accident Involving Personal Injury. 625 ILCS 5/11-401(b) (Class 2 Felony)
- Aggravated Reckless Driving-Causing Great Bodily Harm, Disability, or Disfigurement. 625 ILCS 5/11-503(a)(1) (Class 4 Felony)
- Driving While License Suspended/Revoked for DUI. 625 ILCS 5/6-303(a) (Class 4 Felony)
Clements was transported to the McHenry County Jail.
