Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Crash Near Marengo
An 11-year-old child has died, and a 29-year-old Wonder Lake man sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Marengo Monday evening.
On June 23, 2025, at 6:41 p.m. McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Marengo Fire/Rescue District, Woodstock Fire Protection District, Mercyhealth MD-1, and Huntley Fire Protection District responded to a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in unincorporated Marengo.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2016 Ford Transit Van, driven by an 18-year-old Huntley man, was northbound on Deerpass Road, approaching the intersection with Kishwaukee Valley Road, which has a stop sign.
A 2012 Audi Q5, driven by the 29-year-old Wonder Lake man with the 11-year-old passenger was eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road, and did not have a stop sign.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford failed to yield at the stop sign and crashed into the Audi, causing the Audi to hit a tree on the north side of the roadway.
The driver of the Ford was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock with minor injuries.
The diver of the Audi was transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 11-year-old passenger of the Audi was transported by ambulance to Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford and was later pronounced dead.
Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The driver and passenger in the Audi were wearing their seat belts, while the driver of the Ford was not.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Serious Two-Vehicle Crash near Marengo
On Monday, June 23, 2025 at 6:41 p.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to a reported T-bone crash with entrapment at the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in unincorporated Marengo.

Firefighters arrived and found a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage.
One vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree, while the other was located just north of the intersection.
A juvenile occupant was found trapped inside one of the vehicles, prompting an immediate extrication and life-saving measures.
A medical helicopter was requested and landed in a nearby field.
The juvenile was transported via ambulance, with assistance from a physician with MD-1 and the helicopter crew, to Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford.
At the time of transport, the patient was in critical condition and receiving every possible means of medical attention.
Of the two adult male drivers involved, one sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
The other sustained minor injuries and was also transported for evaluation.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. All questions regarding the cause of the crash, contributing factors, or citations should be directed to their office.
