A Friend of McHenry County Blog went on the tour and observed this:
First observation, everything was neat and in order, the floors were swept and carpets vacuumed.
A rec center that the park District was looking at building in the past was going to be on the, I believe they said north side of Lippold Park. [I’m remembering south of Ackman road in Lake in the Hills.]
And they were looking at 45 million to build that.
They want to look at some other municipalities that have built recreation centers, to see how they came up with the funding for a rec center.
An investor, [John Green] came to the last board meeting and mention that the building could be let go for between 4.2 and $4.5 million.
So it was decided to go over and do a walk-through.
Three park board commissioners,
Northwestern has kept the facility in great shape.
Maintenance walks through the building on a regular basis.
At least once a week during the summer and three times a week during the winter.
Just making sure everything is up to par and they don’t have any leaks anywhere.
They have paid great attention to their pools.
They have them in running condition.
They keep water in them all the time and the pipes are in great shape. Therefore, the integrity of the systems are in great shape.
Park District staff, three board commissioners and the executive Director Jason Herbster lead a small group of people over to the building.
Where they were met by perhaps a dozen folks, a number of whom were employees of Northwestern.
On scene to cover the news, was Northwest Herald reporter, Michelle Meyer.
