The news of a Wonder Lake man dying from a scooter accident made Chicago media.

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Electric Scooter Crash

A 53-year-old McHenry man has died following a single-vehicle electric scooter crash that occurred Saturday morning in the 5000 block of Wildwood Drive, located in unincorporated McHenry County.

On Saturday May 24 at 10:03 a.m., emergency personnel from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Island Lake Police Department, and Wauconda Fire District responded to the scene of the incident involving a Segway eKick Scooter ZT3 Pro.

Preliminary findings indicate that the scooter was traveling southbound on Wildwood Drive when, for reasons still under investigation, the operator was ejected from the unit and landed in the roadway.

The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The 53-year-old operator, identified as the sole occupant of the scooter, was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit in coordination with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
