After Not-So-Good Memorial Day Weather, See What Celebrating Original Holiday Will Bring This Year

When I was in the beginning of my legislative career, our Congressman Robert C. McClory changed the calendar.

He was the sponsor of the three-day holiday bill the recreation industry sought.

So, no more celebrating Memorial Day on May 30th, the day selected by Illinois Civil War General John Logan.

The result was McClory creating a lasting legacy with unintended consequencies.

Too clod for the beaches in Crystal Lake this year.

And what is the weather prediction for May 30th this year?

I did not vote in favor of linking the Illinois Memorial Day to the one McClory successfully sponsored and was proud to say so when asked to speak at Marengo and Union Cemetery Memorial Day observances.
