From a Friend of McHenry County Blog:
Wilcox Goes Viral
Local politician gets mentioned by Libs of TikTok
McHenry County’s own State Senator Craig Wilcox has gone viral on the internet after a large X account called “Libs of TikTok” mentioned him in a tweet about Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the city’s budget shortfall.
The page has over 4.3 million followers on X and the specific tweet mentioning Wilcox has over 45,000 likes and nearly 16,000 retweets.
The text of the tweet is
WOW. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is facing a $1.5 billion deficit. He blew OVER $600 MILLION on migrants while the city was drowning.
Now he’s begging taxpayers for a bailout and pushing “progressive revenue” schemes.
Sen. Craig Wilcox (R-IL) nails it: “Taxpayers shouldn’t bail out Chicago’s financial mismanagement AGAIN!”

Because Chicago is having such large budget problems, the mayor has gone to Springfield to ask the state government for more money.
The situation is so bad not just for the city of Chicago but for the state of Illinois itself that there is renewed interest in amending the Illinois Constitution to allow for a graduated income tax.
While Democrats often point out the budget shortfall, rarely do they mention how much spending has increased because they are presenting the issue as a revenue problem.
Should they raise more revenue by increasing taxes, will they be good stewards of the money?
Will there be significant reforms to spending?
All indicators are that they will not simply try to plug a deficit but that they are looking to massively increase spending as well, and after that happens the cycle of asking for more money because they overspent will start all over again.
It is not by randomness that so many people have moved out of Illinois.
