From congressional candidate Marter:
Jim Marter Demands Lauren Underwood Condemn Political Violence After Supporter’s Death Wish

Jim Marter, Republican candidate for Illinois’ 14th Congressional District, is calling on Democrat opponent Lauren Underwood to immediately and unequivocally condemn political violence following a disturbing public comment made by one of her supporters, who stated they “hope Jim Marter dies.”
“This kind of rhetoric is unacceptable in civil society,” said Marter.
“Silence in the face of this kind of hatred is complicity. Lauren Underwood owes the people of Illinois and the broader public, a clear and public denunciation of this vile and sick behavior.”
The comment, made on social media and publicly linked to a supporter of Rep. Underwood, comes at a time of rising tension in the political landscape.
Marter emphasized the need for elected officials and candidates alike, to take a firm stance against threats, harassment, and violent language, regardless of political affiliation.
“Instead, we see the Democrat Party, especially in Illinois, from Governor JB Pritzker to Mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, inciting violence from the criminals, upon the innocent.
“Now we have a Congressional Representative who apparently is okay with this strategy as well,” said Marter.
“Violence, threats and incitement have no place in our political discourse.
“If Representative Underwood is serious about representing all people and ending this scourge, she should have no hesitation in condemning this kind of hateful speech from her own supporters. Sadly, instead of condemnation, we see division for political gain, with no concern for who gets hurt in the process.”
Marter has long advocated for restoring civility in public life and ensuring that political campaigns are focused on issues and solutions, not threats and intimidation.
He reiterated his commitment to lead by example and is calling on Underwood to do the same.
“Leadership means standing up even when it’s inconvenient. Remaining silent now sends the wrong message to voters — that political violence is tolerable when it comes from your own side. That is simply wrong,” Marter added.
