From the Marengo Fire/Rescue Protection Districts:

Firefighters Contain Brush Fire on Delks Drive

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 10:46 a.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the 20400 block of Delks Drive in unincorporated Marengo for a reported brush fire.

A homeowner reported the fire, and firefighters arrived shortly after to find a fast-moving brush fire spreading through a retention pond and cattails.

Additional resources, including a brush truck and firefighters from the Union Fire Protection District, were requested to assist.

The fire was contained within 30 minutes and did not damage any surrounding homes or structures.

In total, approximately four acres of land burned.

No injuries were reported.

With dry ground conditions and dormant vegetation, the risk of outdoor fires spreading rapidly is heightened.

Residents are urged to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning and to ensure compliance with local burn regulations.

Windy conditions, low humidity, and dry fuels can cause fires to spread quickly, increasing the potential for property damage and safety hazards.
