Message of the Day – Enough

Snow.

Enough already.

How many times must I shovel the driveway?

I can’t even see the thermometer to find out the temperature.

No school in Crystal Lake toady.

County government closed its doors.

My son and his friend are happy.

They got wet playing in the snow this morning.

But, I remember manning the Treasurer’s Office in the old courthouse during the 1967 snow storm.

That day, it was quite hazardous driving up Route 14 to the Woodstock Square.

It was one-lane around the curve that is now before McHenry County College.

I was thinking, “What happens if a car comes the other way”

Message of the Day – Flowers

When I looked at the thermometer Tuesday it read 69 degrees.

The weatherman is saying tonight it will plunge to 31.

And, we might even get snow.

Having walked through melting snow on May 5, 1966, while going door-to-door campaigning for McHenry County Treasurer on the west side of Marengo, the snow doesn’t really surprise me.

Disappoint me?

Yes.

I am ready for winter to be over.

I don’t know what the cold temperatures will do to these early magnolia flowers at the front of the First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake.

But, they surely were beautiful Monday.
