Clean Break from Corrupt and Incompetent Past
With one governor sitting in jail and another disgraced by her incompetence in handling the Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana swore in the youngest governor in the nation this week.
You know it isn’t Illinois, because we haven’t had a woman governor yet and we don’t elect governors in odd numbered years.
This is about Louisiana, a state that just may be more corrupt that Illinois.
Bobby Jindal, the new governor is a Republican who pledges a “clean break.”
36 years old.
Youngest governor in the country.
First Indian-American governor.
I'm told older Indians ask, “Is he Indian enough?”)
Here’s part of his inaugural address:
“We have the opportunity—born of tragedy but embraced still the same—to make right decades of failure in government.
“In our past, too many politicians have looked out for themselves. Too many arms of state and local government did not get results.”
He certainly could be talking about Illinois, don’t you think?

“New Governor Wants to Be Boringly Ethical”
How long will it be before Illinois elects a governor who will say that?
I clipped out this article from the Chicago Sun-Times on October 22nd.
It’s about Louisiana’s new governor-elected Bobby Jindal, a Republican congressman whose parents came from India.

Associated Press quoted him as follows,
That was before Ryan's predecessor, former Governor Jim Thompson, managed to further damage the image of the Illinois Republican Party by defending him to the end.
I know it was out of loyalty, but, goodness gracious.
Thompson got my support (I was the second state representative after Rockford’s Tim Simms to support him) because he put political crooks in jail, not because he defended them.
So, how refreshing it was to see the headline,
I asked one of the swim moms whose family is from India and she told me that the older Indians say, ”He’s not really Indian.”
Regardless, he is an anti-corruption Republican—something the GOP needs a lot of—and he’s only 36 years old. He lost to Democrat Kathleen Blanco four years ago.
You remember her, one of the incompetent Democrats who failed to cope with Hurricane Katrina.
(Democrats are free to comment on incompetent Republicans below.)

''I think we're setting the bar too low when we say, 'Look, isn't it great that we haven't had a statewide elected official go to jail recently?'''That was before former Illinois Governor George Ryan went to jail.

I was reminded I had not done the article I intended to write by an editorial in Elgin’s Daily Courier entitled, “New southern governor may be rising star,” reprinted from The San Diego Union-Tribune. Sorry, but I can’t find a link.
