Message of the Day – A Flower
Americans may have remembered that the Declaration of Independence was all about breaking away from the King of England.
But they still liked their royalty, even after July 4, 1776.
Take a look at this flower, which is in bloom by our front door above the “Welcome” sign.
It’s called “Queen of the Prairie.”
It’s a flower than my color blind eyes thought was blue for about 30 years.
Imagine my surprise when I was told it was pink.

Message of the Day – Flowers
Look at this pansy that volunteered itself on the patio that I call “the helicopter pad.”
It's even the favorite color of this color impaired individual. (Note the politically correct language.)
Yellow
From the window, it looked like a dandelion to me.
I should have been suspicious. There are none anywhere else around the yard.
My wife called it to my attention as she was cleaning out the borders to the house.
And, in a booklet my mother kept about my childhood, she wrote in the mid-1940's that my favorite flower was the pansy.

Message of the Day – Yellow
My color blind eyes see yellow with pretty good intensity.
So, when my son and I walked by this forsythia bush in a yard facing the flooded Fox River, you know I pointed the camera in its direction.
We have a bank of forsythia on Lake Avenue in Lakewood, but those bushes have not bloomed yet.
For a better view, click on the photo.

Message of the Day – The Same Flower as Before
It's the same flower sent in by Pat Kennedy, but this is all that was left after Thursday's snow.
The endless winter continues.
Here's what it looked like before the snow fell.
At least it was melting Friday and will continue to do so today.
Isn't this reverse order?

A Real Flower
Harvard's Pat Kennedy sends in what she thinks is an iris reticulata.Could be by me.
It certainly is pretty.
Thanks for brightening our day.
If you have one in your garden, please send me a picture. Mine have not bloomed yet, except for the little crocus I found under the leaves on the first day of spring.
