The second fan campaign gimmick in one week.

First there was McHenry County Board member Mary Donner’s fold-up patriotic fan.

Then, last night at the Algonquin Township Republican Central Committee meeting at the Cary Country Club, there were Marlene Lantz fans on the tables. The kind that used to be used in southern churches during the hot summer.

Except they probably weren't shaped like an elephant with the message,


McHenry County Board member Yvonne Barnes posed with one. Lantz is running for McHenry County Coroner against Democrat Dave Bachmann.

It’s a campaign gimmick, but it tickled my fancy.

McHenry County Board candidate Mary Donner handed it to me at the Republican booth at the McHenry County Fair last Sunday.

It’s a fan, of course, which says,


It has a red, white and blue motif.
