Jack Franks – Labor Unions’ Million Dollar Man – Part 10 — 4 Comments

  1. Looks like Lyin’ Jacko could actually say he was ‘on the payroll’!

  2. The Chicago Federation of Labor is one of the most powerful labor organizations in the Chicago area and Illinois.

    +++++

    It is an AFL-CIO umbrella organization of AFL-CIO labor union locals.

    It includes some unions that are not AFL-CIO affiliated, such as the Teamsters, SEIU, etc.

    +++++

    AFL-CIO has two basic types of umbrella organizations:

    – Central Labor Councils (CLC)

    – Building and Construction Trade Councils (BCTC)

    ++++++

    Both CLC’s and BCTC’s cover a defined geographic area.

    The Chicago Federation of Labor covers Cook County.

    The BCTC’s are limited in scope to unions that supply building and construction labor.

    ++++++

    The AFL-CIO itself is an umbrella organization of labor unions.

    Example of labor unions, including their acronym or common name, are:

    – Boilermakers (IBC)

    – Bricklayers (BAC)

    – Carpenters (UBC)

    – International Brotherhood of Electricians (IBEW)

    – International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE)

    – Ironworkers (BSOIW)

    – Laborers (LiUNA)

    – Painters (IUPAT)

    – Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA)

    – etc.

    +++++

    In addition to the AFL-CIO CLC’s & BCTC’s, each of the above labor unions have umbrella organizations which vary from union to union.

    For example:

    – District Councils

    – State Council

    – Regional Councils
