Northwest Herald To Conduct “Name the Team” Contest
The Northwest Herald has apparently been tapped to conduct a
contest to name the minor league baseball team, which will be housed in the yet-unapproved baseball stadium at McHenry County College.
That’s what the minutes of the May 18th MCC Board Finance Committee minutes report.
Specifically, here’s what I found (with the help of a friend of McHenry County Blog):
Did or will money exchange hands?
Or did the college gain unquestioning support of the baseball stadium from this dominant local news source in exchange with this seemingly sweetheart deal?
That would adequately explain the lack of probing stories on all the questions and problems brought up about the baseball stadium, not to mention the really sneaky and rushed process by which it is being shoved through city hall?
At the final public information meeting about the baseball stadium on August 22nd, I am told that a board member announced the partnership with the Northwest Herald.
The same May 18th minutes, by the way, say the final vote by the Crystal Lake City Council on the project would be August 7th.
Talk about fast-tracking something.
That was before those nasty ol’ watershed defenders tried to build a dam in front of the MCC tsunami.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Dr. Patton the one escorting the three baseball promoters in the photograph above, which was taken the night of the secret seen at the right presentation?
The three baseball stadium promoters had been hiding in the president's office before their obviously scheduled behind-closed-doors appearance that night. From left to right at the table at Pete Heitman, Mark Houser and Bill Lee. MCC Trustee George Lowe of Cary can be seen listening.

She noted that the college is working with the Herald on a Name the Team contest. One can only wonder if the Northwest Herald has been given the exclusive promotion rights for this opportunity or whether other media outlets were given the same opportunity.
