Bianchi Challenger?

With the resignation of 18-year McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Beaderstadt the Monday before last and defense attorneys chaffing under McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi very non-Gary Pack administration of justice, I got to wondering.

Defense attorneys were also dissatisfied with former State’s Attorney Thomas Baker.

Right after he was appointed, I heard his first speech. It was to the McHenry County Republican Women’s Club at the motel that was where the McHenry County College training facility is now.

Baker said he was interested in pursuing justice, not convictions.

That was so foreign to anything I had ever heard from a state’s attorney it shocked me.

And pleased me.

But, apparently that philosophy did not sit well with some defense lawyers.

Gary Pack, who was a Baker assistant, quit. Then he took a job with one a local law firm.

Then, he ran against Baker and beat him.

Now, I hear that some defense attorneys are dissatisfied with Lou Bianchi’s stewardship of the office.

Having faced death from cancer and won the battle, I figure Bianchi can do what he thinks is the right thing to do. I hope he is.

I won’t tell you that I haven’t chaffed at Bianchi’s so far unwillingness to follow through on the payroll thefts found at Huntley School District 158.

But, with Beaderstand’s resignation, I wonder if the strategy used to get rid of Baker is being used again.

Will the sequence be repeated with Beaderstadt?

More later this week on Bianchi’s challenger.
