Daffodils in Early January

1-4-7 In 2006, the daffodils weren’t this high until early February.

And that was quite early.

It’s the first days of January, 2007, and the daffodils in the most protected part of our Lakewood, Illinois, yard—next to the house in a corner on the east side—are poking their leaves and buds up.

Maybe it's because they are near a window well.

I guess that hard freeze in the first week of December, followed by our spring-like temperatures were enough to trick them into thinking it is spring.

Well, I thought it looked like spring on December 19th when the early December ice was melting from Crystal Lake.

It certainly felt like spring yesterday, Wednesday, January 3rd.

I didn’t even need a coat to go to the noon Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club meeting at Colonial Café on Route 14.
