I was amazed at the waste of Crystal Lake tax dollars when the postman came Friday.

He delivered seven certified letters from the City of Crystal Lake.

$4.64 postage was on each.

They were in response to seven Freedom of Information requests that I filed two weeks ago, the Friday before Christmas.

(I know. Some people go shopping. Others go looking for information.)

In any event, the FOI request form has a place for one’s phone number. They could have called to tell me what was available and what was not.

If they wanted a receipt from me, they could have had a city employee drive over for less money than they spent on postage.

Or they could have sent regular letters.

That’s what other agencies do when I ask for information.
