Pictures of the County Board
My car is at Mike’s Service Center and I had to take my wife to work at her Algonquin blood drawing facitility, so I didn’t get up to the McHenry County Government Center until after the County Board meeting was over.
Don Peasley was just about ready to take the official photograph.
So, standing behind him, I started snapping pictures.
A couple of the board members looked uncomfortable, but I did my best to wait until they smiled.
Next, it was time for the 6 new members to have their photos taken.
I took them, too, although my angle wasn’t as good as Peasely’s.
Afterwards McHenry County Board Chairman Ken Koehler came over and said my picture taking was fine, that I didn’t disrupt anything (or something like that) and that he would give further consideration to my request.
I told him if I took pictures it would probably be from the front row, but I might move from side to side to get a better shot.
Afterwards, three reporters followed me outside the room, which surprised me.
They wanted to know what I would do with the pictures and whether I would be a regular attender of the county board’s meetings.
I answer that I would be an “irregular” attender and that I wanted the pictures so I could put them up on McHenry County Blog when controversial roll calls occurred.
Should be interesting if anything makes it past the editor’s red pencil (or whatever they use to edit today).

The 6 newly elected members of the McHenry County Board are (from left to right) Randy Donley, Jim Kennedy and Dan Ryan on the back row. Sitting in front are Mary Donner, Yvonne Barnes and Mary McCann.

I get it now... when the county board says they would be uncomfortable, they mean you might catch them not smiling! They seem to be perfectly happy when they control the photo op and have thier smiles pasted on. And I have seen your pictures you sneaky so and so.. getting pictures of politicians when they aren't smiling. It's not that they will feel uncomfortable, they don't want you catching them on film being uncomfortable!
