Scheurer’s Moderate Party Achieves “Established Party” Status

Of course, one can’t be sure the Cook County Clerk’s Office is reporting accurate voting results, but, if it is and if my math is correct, it appears that 8th congressional district candidate Bill Scheurer’s Moderate Party has achieved “Established Party” status.

His candidacy got more than the 5 percentage point magic threshold.

Scheurer got 5.8% of the votes cast in the congressional race in which Congresswoman Melissa Bean won re-election over GOP candidate David McSweeney 91,751 to 78,979.

Scheurer got 9,130 votes or 5.8% of the total preliminary vote totals, as I figure the math.

Scheurer did best percentage wise in McHenry County and worst and worst in Cook. The results were
Cook – 1,909 votes for 3.8% of the total
Lake – 5,297 votes for 5.3% of the total
McHenry – 1,909 votes for 6.6% of the total
Candidates running on an established party ticket have to get substantially fewer signatures to get on the ballot than do independent or 3rd parties that have not reached that established status.

Wonder what the prospect of Scheurer's being on the ballot two years from now will have on Melissa Bean's voting record.
