Finding General Borling

While the Rockford Register-Star is having fun with the write-in candidacy of General John Borling for U.S. Congress against incumbent Republican Don Manzullo, the Northwest Herald hasn’t given him the time of day…until yesterday.

I found 14 references to “John Borling” on Google. I tried both “John Borling” and “Herald” and got zilch. I guess that means neither the Northwest Herald nor the Daily Herald have given him the time of day.

In Rockford and Freeport, he has made news, even on TV.

Today the Northwest Herald did a front page article on Mike Shorten, a Crystal Laker who has just announced his candidacy as a write-in candidate for governor. I think he got a bigger story than it did on my candidacy 4 years ago and was even on the ballot.

And, finally, in that story, the Northwest Herald sneaks in Borling’s name.

It’s in a list of write-in candidates for governor, Congress and state representative.

But it doesn’t show up on Google’s search engine.

I wonder if either Herald will notice in 2008 if he runs as an independent.

Bet on it.
