Appellate Court Judges Give George Ryan Freedom Until Appeal Completed

When I read that former Governor George Ryan was granted his wish to stay out of jail pending completion of his appeal, I wondered who made the decision.

They are Frank Easterbrook, Terrence Evans and Diane Sykes.

Not having watched the appellate court, I have no grasp of the roles these folks play.

But, once the decision comes down, it if is not in his favor,
the grant of bail pending appeal will end automatically, without waiting for this court to issue its mandate.
Of interest is that “Volume II” of Ryan’s appeal is being kept secret from the public.

What can that be about?

Comments:
Cal,

Any idea how long this appeal can take?

Also - I heard this news in a tiny, local, old town, restaurant/bar where a single TV was propped up in a corner. It was the kind of comfy "used" place you might find in a woodsy Wisconsin fishing area.

I looked around at the few folks sitting, walking, serving - and tried to imagine any of them being allowed to remain free pending appeal. They have lived small lives - no clout, tuxedos, limos, fancy trips for them. No power to pick up a phone and have their bidding done. No multi-millions of free lawyers to defend them.

It's not hard to picture them BEHIND bars for a lesser charge/crime....waiting for their appeal to be completed.

It came to me early on that Mr. Ryan would not be off to jail after his holiday reprieve. I expected protestations of illness or some other way to delay his entry into the prison population.

Life isn't fair. Life is just life. And Lady Justice walks to slowly sometimes...

So, yes, I, too wonder what's in the sealed "Volume II".

A Game of Possibilities anyone?
