What a Difference a Couple of Days in October Make

I took these photos of a becalmed Crystal Lake at sunrise the first Saturday of October before I went to a Methodist Men’s breakfast at the First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake.

No wind.

Great reflections.

Both sunrises were taken from the boat pier at Gate 7 in Lakewood.

I could hardly believe that I was up early enough to see sunrises two weeks in a row.

(Can you see what my son calls "sky trails?" I tried so hard to keep it out, but I think I failed on one photo.)

About a week later after picking my son up at school, we saw a couple anchored in a fishing boat.

The man was on the phone.

They were too far off shore to ask whether they caught any fish.

I'll give them credit for fishing under rather adverse conditions.

By the time I took my second photograph, the woman was clearly wondering why this guy at Lakewood’s Gate 3 Beach was taking pictures.

She is looking right at me.

Is the same boat I saw Friday afternoon while it was so calm on Crystal Lake?

Its fishermen were dropping lines between the Gate 3 pier from which this photo was taken and the Gate 7 boat launching ramp.

Compared to the people fishing last week during the high wind, these folks are fair weather fishermen.

Last winter the jet ski in the foreground was on dry land. Crystal Lake is not completely back. In fact, this is as low as I have seen it since 1958 during a two-year period.

It is not all that common for Crystal Lake to have reflections right before sunset.

There are often some small waves.

Since I have took this picture Friday night, I thought I'd also include it.

It's all so peaceful.
