Tribune Discovers Huntley School District 158 Wants Forensic Audit
The Chicago Tribune put a small article up about Huntley School District 158’s deciding to hire auditors to investigate itself.
Here’s a paragraph:
No word on the district’s having asked the Justice Department to do the same.
Here’s a paragraph:"Supt. John Burkey, who started July 1, said he wanted auditors to look at the payroll because some administrators are making more money than their contracts stipulate. He added that a former district supervisor is under investigation for allegedly stealing $10,000."And, there’s the unaccounted for $10 million of construction spending, which is not specifically mentioned in the article.
No word on the district’s having asked the Justice Department to do the same.

When a usually calm and quiet senior citizen family member who lived most of her life in Chicago sees the Tribune piece, calls and says "What the Hxxx kind of District have you got out there?" you have to appreciate the candor and her ability to put a life experience finger on things.
It might be considered one of those "Here's your sign!" moments.

requesting input on survey for calendar, however can only reply with a one value per question subset, doesn't seem like survey works right. Can't they even get something like this right???
whose dept is doing this now?

I notice it also forces "you" to answer every question or it won't let you proceed.
In addition, it doesn't present the two sides, briefly or detailed as to the reason the survey is being taken.
It also looks like a survey that could be easily bloated with answers from a small but united group with their own personal agenda.
Quality wise, is this another "foul ball" thrown out by the district?
As to whether or not the District can get something this basic right...history often repeats itself if the same people and their philosophies and level of competency is involved.
I had hoped for better. And, I don't blame the worker bees for this, I toss it back to the people or person at the top who may be out of touch with the District's history and politics - or who buy into what certain long-term board members have to say.

Tribune article- So you were critical, and rightly so, of the problems D158 has had. But now you're still critical when they're trying to fix the problem?
Calendar survey- 1) It's put together well, and couldn't be easier to follow. 2) You're right, shame on the district for not consulting you two before posting the survey.
I can't imagine being so angry and negative all the time.

Re: The survey
D158 administrators are nicely compensated for their jobs. These are not people who are new to the school system and they aren't fresh out of college.
If one or more of them didn't catch the glitches with the survey, people SHOULD wonder why and make it an issue. I suppose the public could be like some board members who keep extending praise to administrators who are unprepared or incorrectly prepared. It didn't work before so I'll take a pass on that philosophy.
However, right now every administrator should be breathing hard over every work product so it is done to the point where there are almost no gaffs or missing parts.
In addition, if anyone thinks that D158's problems are over or that much of the same resistance to change/progress/accountability that existed before doesn't STILL exist, they are dreaming.
This is business not a tea social. While it would be wonderful if everyone became friends, it's not a requirment for doing a good job. To some extent being too friendly is what contributed to the many messes that still have to be exposed and cleaned up.
Our kids and our residents have the right to expect and demand better.

1) I see no glitches with the survey
2) What is happening to indicate they are having the same problems as the old board and administration?

did you try to answer the survey? Only 1 ranking is allowed per sub set of each question. The ranking will not provide an accurate reflection that is probably the intent of the survey.
I was only trying to point out as a survey taker what issue was encountered.

I did take the survey. Each question asks you to rank each item in order of importance from 1 to 5. It couldn't be more clear. It would skew the results if you could give each subset multiple rankings.
