State Aid to Huntley School District 158 Comes In for Federal Probe Request

State aid to education is the final subject of the board member memo, which was the first attachment in Huntley School District 158 John Berkey’s letter to the United States Attorney General.

1- The State of Illinois conducted audits of the District’s books and found that millions of dollars in false claims had been submitted to the state for reimbursement. The millions of false claims for several consecutive years, were for
· Transportation reimbursements,
· Special Education reimbursements, and,
· General State Aid reimbursement for one year.
All evidence of who submitted the claims and who prepared the claim submittals are missing. Documents supporting the claims are missing.

2- A State official publicly disclosed that the District did not submit for reimbursement about $1 Million of invoices/expenses to the State.

3- The most egregious example of the false claims submitted was depreciating “phantom” buses that never existed. About 75-100 “phantom” buses were depreciated in consecutive years. The District’s independent Auditor overlooked and/or did not detect the millions of dollars in depreciation errors for consecutive years.
