Crystal Lake Grade School District 47 Curriculum Fight To the Yards
Driving down Pomeroy Street I saw a sign in a front yard. I couldn’t read it. Probably time for weaker glasses.
(That’s right. Nearsighted people’s eyes get better after age 55.)
It was on the wrong side of the street for me, so I pulled over to take a picture.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was a sign dedicated to fighting the lessening of time for non-core subjects in junior high, transferring the time to the more basic subjects.
The sign says,
DISTRICT 47At the bottom of the sign was the address of a web site:
NO CHANGES
PLEASE
ENCOREMEANSMORE.COMMy guess is that this is a job related sign, but maybe parents who highly value the non-core subjects taught are involved, too.
Suggesting that the effort is related to saving teaching positions is the following statement, which I found on the Encore Means More web site:
Eliminate 12 Encore curriculum teaching positionsLater you can find this:
This will require hiring 12 additional Math and Science teachers. There are more arguments, of course, and I would encourage folks to read them.
Strangely, the web site does not give the addresses and phone numbers of the school board members. I think that is a mistake, if they want people who agree with them to contact District 47 school board members.
There is a form letter to Superintendent Ron Miller.
District 47’s web site has this article on the subject.
