Northwest Herald Finally Writes About Chicago Crime Commission’s McHenry County Probe
Well, glory be.
The Northwest Herald has finally written its first article about the Chicago Crime Commission’s, what, 5-month or longer probe into complaints about public officials in McHenry County.
And, it’s not bad.
It does minimize the importance of “some complaints” that have been handed over “to federal authorities,” buy, hey, McHenry County's paper of record is breaking new ground in even mentioning the probe’s existence.
McHenry County Blog first reported the Chicago Crime Commission's probe into McHenry County May 4th. July 23nrd McHenry County Blog reported on State's Attorney Lou Bianchi's letter to county officials. August 4th, McHenry County Blog printed a letter from Barrington Hills' attorney stating the village had not started the probe.
The Herald article does point out that Crime Commission’s president Jim Wagner thinks the information “warranted an investigation.”
But I don’t see Wagner identified as a retired FBI special agent.
The only credentials given are his presidency and that his group is “nonprofit.”
And, the McHenry County court system is just one of six areas covered by the report handed over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI. That’s new information reporter Rob Phillips got that I didn't.
Join me in wondering what they were. (One hint might have been in the Sun-Times, which used the word "municipal" in an article.)
Here McHenry County Chief Judge Sharon Prather’s comment to the NW Herald:
Here's where one can report political corruption.

They are disgruntled litigants who are unhappy with decisions made in family courts. Nobody walks away from family court a winner. They are unhappy. It is an extremely emotionally charged experience.= = = = =

So, the Northwest Herald (NWH) is the "paper of record" for School District 158 AND McHenry County?
aargh
The NWH seemed to be better a couple years ago as to its less nonsense coverage of D158 when things started to hit the fan. Then the paper had a shift, Steve Brosinki's excellent take was apparently deemed no longer needed, and the coverage since has been alternately on target or failing in several areas.
You tend to wonder if it's the advertisers who affect the coverage. Or the political folks. Or simply the editors personal slant which is too heavy.
Now it's also the McHenry Country paper of record.
I read both but lean to the Daily Herald's coverage, timeliness and quality of staff behind the words. I keep my fingers crossed that, one day, the NWH will be better. (No, I don't pay attention to awards the papers get. I'm the judge and jury on this one - at least for me.)

Re: the CCC and topic's quote from a Judge...
When three people you know volunteer that divorces in their families could have been handled a lot better by the McHenry County system - and those people are standard white bread life people not the ones who make the police reports on a regular basis,
you have to assume it's not just a few disgruntled "losers" unhappy with the process.
Hey CCC folks - the PEOPLE in McHenry County need you - don't forget us.
