Taxpayers Actually Have a Candidate to Cheer for Huntley School District 158 Board Vacancy
Because of the resignation of Glen Stewart to take a $101,000 administrative job as head of operations for Huntley School District 158, there is a vacancy.
These are the 4 publicly announced candidates for the post:
Derek Martin is a former appointed school board member whom voters threw out of office after the referendum debacle. He got the lowest vote total of all of the candidates running in April, 2005. This was after he was appointed by the former board tax hike committee called B.E.S.T., which boasted that they got one of their own on the board. He got 1,553 votes, while Larry Snow’s running mate Kim Proper received 2,273.
Michael Andre was a referendum debacle leader, a political activist leader of B.E.S.T. and friend of the now-Majority Five school board members. He was paid $284.54 on 5-10-5 for an “internet Web Page maintenance fee,” plus $1,232.94.
Roger Henderson is married to the Huntley Education Association teachers union President in District 158. Henderson ran as a B.E.S.T.-endorsed candidate in the last election and avidly supported the misleading referendum question. Henderson was the B.E.S.T. candidate that Snow edged out by 79 votes.
Then there is Tony Quagliano, a C.P.A. who was a primary contributor to District 158 getting back $14 Million in State Aid to Education that the referendum lost. Quagliano is a member of the Financial Advisory Committee. I can’t find the reference, but Representative Mike Tryon is said to have publicly acknowledged that he goes to Tony because he can get numbers he can trust.
There is supposedly a 5th candidate who wants to keep his/her candidacy secret until the prospective board members are interviewed in public next Tuesday night.
Come to the meeting and find out who this shy person is.
Which one do you think this Board will pick?

Hmmmm -
4 publicly announced candidates and a "mystery" candidate? The
"We'll Do It Our Way! World" of District 158 continues.
3 of the four announced tie back to the tax increase referendum's former (now "only" a committee) political action committee self-named as B.E.S.T. A committee comprised of innocent followers and leaders who described themselves as (my condensed words) being in the know and on top of the truth. As it turned out they weren't exactly "best" in that self-appraisal. And based on Cal's reference to one of their leaders being involved with the D300 campaign, etc. - considering the leaders as "only" local grass roots volunteers rings a bit sour.
1 announced applicant (Quagliano) who has the "in the trenches" credentials, a financial background that speaks for itself, and whose hours devoted to the District would surely make the combined hours of the other 3 look miniscule.
A mystery candidate who may or may not have a clue what's been going on in the District.
I think the question might be "If District 158 wants ANY credibility with its residents/parents/taxpayers at all, who SHOULD they pick?"
This sure seems to be a case of the B.E.S.T. candidate not always being the best candidate.......
Yo! D158, do what's right for a change. The local newspapers' headline writers, editors, and reporters could probably use a few days off.
