Huntley School Board Unanimous on Forensic Audit
The temperature has been rising on the Huntley School District 158 board for quite a while now.
Last night, it seemed to come to a boil.
Stoking the fire for fiscal reform, maybe integrity is a better word, has been board member Larry Snow…even before his election.
This is a complete turn about since mid-June, when Snow could not even get a second to his motion for a forensic audit.
As I reported a week ago, the board agreed on forensic audits, but, because that is such a strong word, they’re calling it “targeted” audits.
Payroll and construction expenditures are the targets. A former payroll employee is now under criminal investigation, confirming the premonition of the district's regular auditor, who told the board,

I just want you to know that people could easily be stealing money from the district. Here is Daily Herald reporter Jeffrey Gaunt's story about the meeting. He reports,
Snow brought up the possibility that the U.S. Attorney’s Office might be willing to perform a forensic audit.Gaunt reports that newly appointed board member Tony Quagliano, a CPA, said,

Snow said an energy contract for about $150,000 and other potential payroll discrepancies with administrators could persuade federal investigators to intervene.

Grapevine says that with regard to the very - repeat - very revealing management letters over the past years (the management letters that are an integral part of the outside audit)....
While some long term board members have been stating they were unaware of or had not seen the letters - they also simply stare if you ask them why "they" (at least the ones who are business aware) didn't ASK for the letters Before or Recently.
If not 5 years ago, surely the last 2 years have made the World know that something was rotting and smelling in D158's closets.
Chatter on the street is that long board members probably CHOSE not to inhale ............
One of those things that makes you go hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
