Message of the Day – A Tee Shirt

Here is another tee shirt that I found at the First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake’s 11 o’clock service, which is aimed at our teenagers.

I noticed a white dot on black tee shirt with the word
ONE
on the back of a young lady’s tee shirt when I came in.

After church, I asked what it stood for and found it was short for One.org, an organization dedicated to wiping out poverty.

Comments:
Although the heart is in the right place, maybe someone should read their Bible...Jesus Himself said "Lo the poor will be with you always..."

Hello priscilla jael - re your reference to "Lo the poor will be with you always"

I do not question that many people know more about the Bible than I do. When I see a quote, or, for that matter cite one, I wonder if it has been taken out of context or is truly applicable to the situation at hand.

My search for this quote turned up a few hits that confused me even more.

Can you flesh out the content surrounding this quote?

Consider that:

Stamping out poverty is doable though unlikely given human nature.

And it is unlikely that even if poverty was stamped out, that everyone would technically have the identical amount of tangible assets so technically somebody must be poorer than.

And, last but not least, the richest people on the planet can be the most disgusting people on the planet and therefore poor where it counts most.

Thanks.

Does this mean that we shouldn't fight poverty - because that's how I'm taking it.

"Although the heart is in the right place" sounds like the kind of thing you say before you call someone an idiot. Nice.
