District 300 Tax Hike Committee Has $41,500 for Next Time
$41,538.12, to be exact, is left over from the District 300 tax hike committee’s spring campaign.
While the committee’s purpose says,
Maybe it will sit around for five years when District 300 insiders seem to think that another tax rate referendum will be needed.
Or, maybe some of it will be used to beat back any challenges to the "Vote Yes, Vote Yes" District 300 Board members who are up for election.
While the committee’s purpose says,
that can be changed at any time."To pass a school referendum"

Thats about twice what they started with....before the contributions
not a bad thought.. use it to pay the tax hikes of what about 80 residents.. maybe the elderly...

Sounds about right.
Seems to me D158's (then political action committee) B.E.S.T. and/or its Spring Committee went from promoting the (fiasco) tax increase referendum to doing candidate forums and endorsing candidates.
(See Cal's other section about Ms. Cheryl Meyer, B.E.S.T, Advance 300, Campaign Solutions.)

Look past the 2006 elections. They'll use this money to push the Martire plan for a 67% state income tax increase. Heck, the ink was barely dry on D-158's referendum before BEST and other like-minded stooges set their sights on taking more of our money via state taxes.
Its the path of least resistance. These groups don't care how they do it, they just want our money. Anybody who thought this huge tax increase was the end has been completely had.

There are four D300 school board members whose terms will be up for election come next April: Board President Mary Fioretti (Algonquin Township) and Board Member Susie Kopacz (Hampshire Township) are up for re-election for 2nd terms.
Appointed Board Members Dave Alessio (Dundee Township) and Joe Stevens (Dundee Township) will face voters for the first time come April, assuming both will seek a full term. Stevens has already said he's running for a full four year term. I have not seen a similar comment from Alessio.
It'll be interesting to see if that is the purpose of those $41,000. It definitely is enough to run a credible campaign for the incumbents, if the Advance 300 leadership chooses to do so.
But as Cal posted earlier on this blog, the Family Taxpayers Network is not sitting idle. I, too, received one of their mailings from last month. In 2005, the D300 school board elections for 4 spots (3 4-year terms, 1 2-year term) were uncontested. Should be interesting to see who FTN recruits for the D300 school board elections.
