Message of the Day – A Bumper Sticker and a License Plate

I found this matched pair of messages on Oak Street heading into Crystal Lake.

The bumper sticker below the rear window reads ”Goeoist” I think.Below is an appropriate license plate from Iowa:
KATPHSH
Yiddish for,
Do you understand?
I’m not sure I do, but maybe you will.

I see the symbols for Muslims, peace, Jews and, I guess, the "e" is for the environmental movement.

I just got it. The "t" is a Cross for Christianity.

Did I miss anything?

Comments:
If you believe the plate has a deeper meaning, I will defer to you.

But my first thought on seeing the plate was "cat fish".

The bumper sticker may be trying to say "coexist" -- a valid concern in the Middle East.

There are several versions of the coexist sticker on the Internet.

Some include the word "Imagine" underneath - perhaps harkening to the Lennon song "Imagine".

One shows the E with the male and female symbols sticking out of it.

Sometimes there's a pentagram.

Sometimes there's the yin and yang symbol incorporated into the top of the "I" or into the S.

--------------

I'm leaning toward the Catfish theory instead of deeper meaning.

I thinksthe plate is just the nick name catfish...it's an Iowa City, Iowa liscense plate holder holding a University of iowa version of the Iowa liscense plate. Th elakes (Mcbride, etc) and rivers around there are full of catfish, not to mention the corn fed farm pond ones that grow huge.

As a long time Iowa resident, I have found it best to take things in Iowa at thier face value...they try not to be so complicated.. heck, 75,000 of them all roar that famous line from Field of dreams at the begining of every Hawkeye football game ..."Is This Heaven? ... No it's Iowa!"

you missed quite a bit. katphsh is not supposed to mean capeesh (a derivation of the italian- capisce, meaning understand)... if so why would there be a "t" or the first "h"? and as everyone else has said, the bumper sticker means coexist, lately an all too important message. What are you trying to imply or prove by posting this blog? why did you take the time to photograph and post pictures of this car?

Phish is a popular jam-band, similar to the Grateful Dead. Like the Grateful Dead, they once attracted swarms of followers tracking them cross country to concerts and music festivals ad nauseum, and similarly are now defunct. My guess is that the Toyota is licensed by a driver named KATe or KATlin or KAThryn, and she is a fan of Phish.
The Yin and Yang symbol dotting the "i" represents a wide variety of Eastern philosophies. In fact, this symbol is a prominent feature on the flag of South Korea. It has to do generally with the concept of balance, but specifically with the concept of male and female. If you look closely at the symbol, it is evenly dark and light (often red and blue; sometimes black and white). But within the field of light is a perfect circle of dark color; likewise in the field of light color is a perfect circle of the dark color. It symbolizes that in each of us there lives a little bit of the opposite nature to keep us balanced.
Hopefully that helps share some light! I am enjoying this blog. I have many relatives in McHenry County, though I am a few states away. You help me with my homesickness, now that I know that your site is there!

rebecca got it!

Ummm yeah, hi there, Cal... I happen to be the owner and driver of the vehicle in question.

May I start off by saying how utterly creepy it is that you followed me, a young undergrad, and took pictures of my car and license plate. I must say that I am offended and disgusted by you, and I honestly feel violated.

Secondly, I am appalled by your ignorance and stupidity! The yiddish term you are referring to is spelled "capisce" and it isn't YIDDISH at all, it's ITALIAN, you ignorant buffoon.

And for your information, my license plate is a combination of my name and the name of the band, Phish, who I happen to listen to. I thought that my name, Kat, blended nicely with the band's name due to the way each is spelled (Kat instead of Cat, Phish instead of Fish). A somewhat clever way of incorrectly spelling catfish, with a completely innocent meaning behind it...

The bumper sticker does not say Geoist at all, can't you read? Geoist does NOT have an "x" in it... it definitely says "coexist" using symbols from different cultures and religions to get across a benign message of peace. I'm shocked that such an unaggressive message could be taken so out of context.

The plate and bumper sticker have no relation to each other whatsoever, other than the fact that they are on the same vehicle.

You need to do a little research before you start posting pictures of people's license plates and making crazy off-the-wall claims about them. You don't know me, so don't pretend like you do. Don't EVER follow me in my car and take pictures of me EVER AGAIN. I am from Crystal Lake and am there often, and many of my family members were shocked and angered when they saw this post on your stupid blog. How dumb can you be, honestly?!

To answer your question curtly, YES, you missed EVERYTHING.

The above post was made Jan. 29, 2008.

Thanks for the explanation.

Kind of hard not to follow cars on the road in front of one.

I think I was driving back from Wonder Lake.

Yes, I agree, it is difficult not to follow cars in front of you, but is it difficult to NOT take a picture of them? And is it difficult to NOT post their license plate on the internet and make ridiculous claims about them to which there is no rhyme or reason? I think not. Put your camera away before someone labels you as a stalker, or better yet, what you really are - a creepy old man with too much time on his hands. Oh, too late! I already did that. Don't you dare try to be a condescending smart-ass to me, I can beat you at the word-game any day.

Oh, and furthermore... Where you were driving back from is not relevant. You said in the original post you saw me on Oak Street heading into Crystal Lake, so obviously I was nowhere near Wonder Lake... Don't bother responding to this post unless you really feel the need to. I've said all I need to say.

Kat's deleted post said I had deleted her original post. As can be seen, I did not.

WOW i def agree that cal must be an OLD CREEPSTER... maybe its passed your time and you dont understand how things work but you don't follow people taking pictures of them unless you want to dub the title of creepy old man paparazi wana be. I'm still trying to even understand the point you're trying to make by this blog.

oh way to point that out
... DUH - i deleted it because i realized that you hadn't deleted it.

my last comment was to cal, in case that's not clear enough. thanks, annoyed, for your support. i'm glad i'm not the only one confused and creeped out by cal.everyone should be wary of his unusual behavior.

by the way, cal, if you continue to point out obvious and unnecessary little tidbits of information that don't strengthen your case whatsoever, i will continue to respond and point out the shallow absurdity of your statements. other than that, i still have nothing left to say to you.
