Waste Transfer Station Approved; Could Have Paid for Vulcan Lakes' Improvements

The Crystal Lake City Council approved a waste transfer station close to where the old Crystal Lake dump used to be on Virginia Street Road.

The amount that will be paid the city--an estimated $23 million over 20 years--could have been used to do everything the city fathers and mothers want to do to the Vulcan Lakes property that now lies fallow.

This suggestion was made on McHenry County Blog last November, but, obviously forcing all of our taxes up with a Tax Increment Financing district instead makes more sense to our city fathers. Here's what Grade School District 47 said about how city TIFs shift the tax burden from those in the TIF districts to us outside them.
