Message of the Day - A Bet
Thanks to blogger and political commentator Tom Roeser for reminding me of and stating, so all I had to do was copy
Pascal’s wager is this:
Pascal’s wager is this:
Suppose we tend not to believe in God and when we die we find we have been wrong-He exists.
The choice was obviously a tragically wrong one so the risk we took was fatal.
On the other hand, suppose we believe in God and find out when we die He doesn’t exist? What have we lost?
Nothing, but we have been prudent in judging risk.
Suppose we believe in God and when we die we find out He does exist?
The worst risk from the standpoint of probability is to deny the existence of God flatly with runs the risk of being disappointed if He does exist.

This reminded me of the same kind of thinking that the early explorers faced...Magellan, and others who were told that they would fall off the edge of the earth, because it was flat, not round....it took faith, determination, and a belief beyond themselves and their environment, to show the whole world at that time, that the collective thought was wrong! Many in that era of time, even some who went against political and religious "correctness" were publically scathed and even jailed for their "thinking"....which in the the end, proved to be THE TRUTH. It takes alot more faith in something when that faith is tried....than just following the lemmings in blind belief. We have learned in our mere existance here on Earth, that: the Earth is not the center of the solar system; it is not flat; it is not stationary; that there are flora and fauna yet to be discovered; that Darwin only proposed a theory, not a fact, and recanted that theory...meaning he proved himself wrong! that many of the greatest scientific minds of all generations had personal belief in God....Leonardo DaVinci, Einstein, Galileo...to name a few.
If they, with their incredible intelligence and view to the future could embrace a Power greater than themselves, why should it be so difficult for an average person? Does the average, politically correct person know more than say, Einstein? Sometimes a little knowledge IS a dangerous thing!
