Pelosi's Bay Area supporters have hosted house parties featuring out-of-state Democrats running in some of this year's toughest congressional races.
The events featured visits by Democrat Nick Lampson, who is challenging DeLay in Texas, and Rep. Melissa Bean, who in 2004 captured an Illinois seat long-held by Republicans but now faces a tough challenge.
Pelosi's supporters contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to each of these candidates, according to Brian Wolff, Pelosi's political director and a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. That will be a huge boost in races where the campaign totals will probably come to less than $3 million.
