In Defense of Larry Snow, Reform Member of the Huntley School Board - Financial Watch Listing Coming For District 158?

What follows is a letter to the editor from Huntley’s Bill Seedorf. It was greatly truncated in the Northwest Herald, which does not allow letters of more than 200 words (down from 300) after its makeover.
To the Editor:

Here's chutzpah at its "best". It appears six of seven District 158 board members still want taxpayers kept in the dark.

When Larry Snow offers facts/figures and tries to lead taxpayers out of the darkness he's belittled for it. ("Nah! Don't let anyone know what's going on!" is apparently the continuing D-158 mantra.)

His solutions include doing what's financially right for kids and taxpayers.

What a novel idea!

For the clueless: If taxpayers have ALL the true facts, including in D-300, they are more capable of making an intelligent decision.

When our board applauded B.E.S.T.'s resident volunteer leader Cheryl Meyer, should we also have been told she "specializes in grassroots campaigns and has over 7 years experience in political and referendum campaigns." ? (Advance 300 describing paid "professional help".)

Any board members who think taxpayers don't need to know truthful numbers should be replaced. Those on "watch" during the 2004 referendum disaster or additional financial "revelations", and who let the District's educational "plan" ball drop should be replaced. Any board members who retained under-performing staff didn't do what's good for the kids and they can't be trusted with further business decisions. If any of those "shoes" fit Board President Mike ("I'm dumbfounded. ") Skala and any like-thinking board members, so be it.

Once that attitude and performance level is ousted, maybe our kids and residents will be better served.

If these six board members are so good at writing letters, why hasn't there been one in the paper saying the District still can't balance its 6/30/05 books? The state deadline and its extension are long past and D-158 can or will be put on the financial watch list.

If the recent busing "surprises" didn't get your full attention, maybe this will.

BILL SEEDORF

HUNTLEY
