How’s This for Some Major Traction for Bill Scheurer’s Campaign to Get on the Ballot for Congress?

So, I no sooner get 8th congressional district Peace candidate Bill Scheurer’s press release up on chiding U.S. Senate Democrats for not supporting Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold’s effort to censure President George Bush for illegal wire tapping (see below) and here comes a more important press release.

Scheurer is to speak to the National Press Club tomorrow. That may well result in his breaking into the Chicago media.

And media exposure is what he needs if he is to recruit enough volunteers to gather the 13,950 signatures necessary for a third party candidate to get on the ballot to face off against Democrat Melissa Bean and whoever wins the Republican primary election next Tuesday.

March 28th through June 26th is the petition-gathering period, with the petitions having to be filed by June 26th.

Here’s the press release:
Bill Scheurer Helps Organize Voters for Peace

Congressional candidate Bill Scheurer of the Illinois 8th District will speak at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Friday morning to launch a national voter movement geared to identify candidates who are pro-peace and candidates who are supporters of the Iraq war.

Scheurer, who also editor of the nationally renowned news website PeaceMajority.org, is one of group of peace activists who founded Voters for Peace this year. He says the work of this organization is gaining greater importance with President George Bush’s calling for the bombing of Iran.

Bill Scheurer is running as an independent candidate for Congress, in part he says, because he views the Democratic incumbent as aligned behind the Bush administration regarding the Iraq war. “When you are choosing the lesser of two evils, you are still left with evil” Scheurer said relating to the lack of choices presented to voters by both Democrats and Republicans when it comes to the Iraq war.

Comments:
Scheurer better hope he gets enough traction for 30,000 signatures because I think there will be a task force assembled to go through his petitions. Bean only beat Crane by 4%, Scheurer on the ballot could mean the election to Bean and the Dems.
