District 300 Students Knock on Doors of Man with “Vote No” Sign, While Developers Give Tax Hike Committee More Cash

The money keeps rolling as the District 300 tax hike committee as District 300 students visited a “Vote No Tax Referendum” yard sign homeowner in Algonquin.

They weren't there to hassle the homeowner. They wanted to know where to get a "Vote No" sign.

McHenry County Blog just received an email with this tale, a tale that will send shivers down the spines of tax hike committee members:
I was just visited by 4 students from Jacobs who stopped to inquire about my ‘Vote No” in the yard. The enclosed pictures will show you what they received in school today. The "alterations", of course, are his work. One of them said they would write me detailing the pro-referendum activities taking place at school. I hope he follows through. Pleas for help in canvassing were in the announcements today, I'm told.

They asked where they could get some "Vote No" signs.

As we were talking, I asked why they supported a no vote where it seems most students would be inclined to support the referendum.

One student in particular said he didn't want his parents to pay higher taxes and that the district was wasting money.

Another said he didn't like all the propaganda they were being exposed to at school. He said the morning announcements often had topics to do with the referendum--today's was a plea for volunteers to walk the neighborhoods and that in addition to the t-shirts, pro-referenda bracelets were also distributed.

When I asked if there was ever any information regarding the opposing viewpoints, they chuckled as they answered, “No."
Meanwhile, the tax hike committee announced the receipt of $10,000 more, bringing the within $10,000 of its goal of $153,000, if one counts all resources available since the middle of last year.

My guess is that this will be the most expensive school referendum campaign in Illinois history.

Here are the donors revealed Friday, March10th:
· $5,000 from HPI-Elgin LLC, 6860 North Frontage Road, Suite 100, Burr Ridge, IL

· $5,000 from PHI-Hampshire Inc., 6860 North Frontage Road, Suite 100, Burr Ridge, IL
This is the same address as the Pasquinelli Development Group, a developer that donated $10,000 to the Oswego Schools Referendum Campaign Committee a year ago.

Comments:
Well, as most of you may know, the person in the picture is a junior at Jacobs H.S.

I was holding one of my completely legal meetings, when I got to the portion where the students could come up, ask me questions, grab a shirt, a bracelet, and some signs. Someone had told me that they saw a couple students, being led by this junior, come into the meeting as soon as it was over, grab several t-shirts and several handfuls of bracelets.

I was only passing out these
shirts to those who are supporting the referendum effort. As I recall, the opposition for the referendum doesn't like it when signs and such are taken out of yards and vandalized, so why support this? It is the same thing. In my meeting I severely stressed that all the students SHOULD NOT take signs down of the opposition because it will come to haunt us later. What does this childish junior do? He comes in, steals at least 3 of my shirts and handfuls of my bracelets.

I then confronted him, taking back two of my shirts that he had taken and about ten of the twenty bracelets he took.

About the post that was deleted, the reason there has not been any opposing opinions of the referendum at the schools is because they have not asked to do so. Frankly, I am not against opinions, but I am against the way that they express them. I used to respect this junior, talking and debating our sides.

He is the one that started going crazy, so he should be the one prosecuted for stealing, and vandalizing. As I said, I severely stated that no student should tear down someone's opposition sign in their yard, and then he does this.

You get angry about others tearing down signs, then why don't you get mad at others who are stealing shirts and vandalizing them.

YOU SAY "ALTERED",
I SAY "VANDALIZED!!!!!!

Go down a little farther and read the article about the District 300 truck being used to pick up "Vote No" signs.

I'd be interested in your reaction to that.

Lighten up Matt. Youthful exuberance is wonderful, but in your case, misguided. At your young age, you're already demonstrating the worn out and tiresome tactics of portraying yourself as the victim and namecalling. You have more than ample opportunities to express your views in school. How many times a day are you allowed to make public announcements? By the way, the student's face was cropped out of the picture to respect his privacy, not because he was afraid to show his face.
