The 2nd Reason Personal PAC Is Worried Denny Driscoll Might Beat Mark Beaubien
How uncomfortable it must be for State Rep. Mark Beaubien (R-Barrington Hills) to be running in a contested primary against conservative Denny Driscoll. Beaubien has to be noticing that all six of the Republican candidates for the 8th congressional district nomination are pro-life, as is Driscoll, while Beaubien is a person about as favorable to abortion as one can find in the General Assembly.

In fact, the congressional candidate whose abortion stand Beaubien most agrees with is that of Democratic Party incumbent Melissa Bean, the woman all six pro-life Republican challengers are gunning for.
This mailing must be one of the reasons that Personal PAC decided to bring in its heavy campaign guns on behalf of Beaubien.
How illogical is it that a minor needs her parent’s permission to get her ears pierced, but not to get an abortion?
The missive notes that Beaubien twice voted against banning partial birth abortion.

I wrote the letter below about this race to the Pioneer Press rags in Wauconda, Barrington, and Cary-Grove. Even after getting a confirmation call, of course they didn't bother to print it. They endorsed Comrade Beaubien instead.

Attention voters in the Illinois 52nd representative district! Our state representative, who has worked tirelessly to break the tax caps and spend with reckless abandon and no accountability, wants us to send him back to Springfield for a sixth time. This wouldn't be a good idea.
Some of you may have received literature from Mr. Beaubien claiming among other things that he's a taxfighter. He has an odd definition of taxfighter. In the 93rd General Assembly, Beaubien voted Yes on a number of bills that were part of Governor Blagojevich's fee and tax increases -- HB 848, HB 849, HB 864, SB 841, and SB 1903 all did or would have increased fees (e.g. trucking, EPA), expanded the tax base, removed tax incentives (costing Illinois jobs), and added taxes to things such as Worker's Compensation and computer software. "Taxfighter" Beaubien voted Yes on every one of these bills, that have cost taxpayers and businesses hundreds of millions of dollars.
Beaubien claims that portrayal of him as a tax-and-spend politician is ludicrous. Ludicrous or not, it's true. Besides voting in favor of numerous tax and fee increases, his campaigns have been heavily funded by teacher unions (teachers may be "for the kids", their unions are for relentless taxing and limitless spending) -- to the tune of over $16,000 in his 2002 campaign and over $30,000 in his 2004 campaign.
Also in the 93rd General Assembly, Beaubien voted for Gov. Blagojevich's plan to make up for a shortfall in funding the state pension systems by simply borrowing another $10 billion (HB 2660). Talk about leaving something "for the kids".
Denny Driscoll will be on the Republican primary ballot challenging Beaubien for the 52nd District State Representative seat on March 21. While Driscoll has no experience in the General Assembly (which should be considered a good thing in Illinois these days), we do know one very positive thing about him: He's not Beaubien.
