Star105 Host on Gay Games Reaction: “A Small Town Attitude”

As I was taking some pictures of Crystal Lake from Gate 3 Beach on Thursday morning, the Star105 morning guy and gal were making fun of those who oppose having the rowing contests for the Gay Games held on Crystal Lake. The parts I caught included a mother was referring people to a parental support group web site and a mother whose religious views did not include a celebration of that lifestyle.
The male co-host (sorry, I don’t listen enough to know either host’s name), observed that those with concerns had such “a small town attitude.”
Perhaps the hosts have not figured out that McHenry County is a place where people move to raise families. 85 percent of McHenry County’s residents are homeowners. That's the highest percentage in the whole country.

I would like to respond by posting my recent letter to the editor at the Northwest Herald:
In response to the editorial "Gay Games Good for City", I have to ask, says who?
I just spent two weeks watching many wonderful athletes compete in the Olympic games. It wasn't called The Heterosexual Olympic Games, it is just The Olympics. Why do a group of people, who claim they want to be treated just like everyone else, feel the need to go around and promote their sexual identity?
I certainly don't look forward to explaining to my children why they are called the Gay Games. "You see Susie, those two men rowing like to sleep together and they want the world to know it".
This organization promotes itself as being inclusive, i.e. anyone can participate. Then why do they need to label themselves as The Gay Games? Why not call it the Pseudo-Olympics, or The Anyone Can Participate Games? I can't help but think there must be an agenda.
Let's stick with the Cardboard Cup Regatta and leave the Gay Games to Chicago.

I completely agree with the comment above. I can't imagine who would think a nice, hometown, place like Crystal Lake would be a good place for "Gay Games"??? Please! I agree with Donna; keep it in Chicago!!!!
