Huntley District 158 Board “Colleagues” Criticize Larry Snow for Analyzing District 300 Figures and Telling
No good deed shall go unpunished.
Here District 158 School Board member Larry Snow decided to use his expertise to help inform District 300 voters how the financial projections being laid out in the referendum have been ”cooked” (not his description) and his school teacher union-dominated fellow board members decided to rebuke him.
They didn’t have the guts to do it in an open meeting.
They did it in a letter to the editor, published today in the Daily Herald.
The support by one teacher union-dominated board for another teacher union-dominated board really should not surprise taxpayers.
Especially when the first teacher dominated-school board was spanked by Snow for giving out false information about last year’s 55-cent tax hike referendum.
When reached for comment, Snow said, “First, I was asked to speak by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary. Second, a trustee for Lake in the Hills asked me to come to its meeting and address the trustees on school crossing guards. Third, I received (School Board President) Mike Skala’s approval to speak publicly to the Lake in the Hills trustees. Finally, I’m pleased my fellow board members acknowledge my First Amendment Freedom of Speech rights.”
“It’s is interesting that my fellow board members are encouraging the public to call the school to complain about me. Do you think they will count the number of people who call and voice their support?”
The number in the paper was 847-659-6158.

Isn't it interesting that even as local students compete for and win awards on the subject of Freedom of Speech, D-158's board decides that Freedom of Speech is selective? Agree and you can talk as much as you want - much like the zombi droning in horror flicks. Disagree and you're rights are forfeit. Maybe D-158's next school should be named "Censorship West"?
It's "funny" that the same folks who gave Snow a hard time when he spoke the truth in D-158 are giving him a hard time about speaking the truth regarding D-300 . maybe it's a case of "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." and Snow's truth struck an important nerve. Truth has a way of doing that.
And, since when does mentioning your affiliations automatically mean you are speaking for them? It's part of business and social interaction. It doesn't eliminate you from having an opinion - at least not in MY America.
As to "damaging" staff, students, residents, officials - oh, please. Lies and lies by omission, a too agreeable board, and a PAC leadership too tied to the District's version of the "facts" are what "damaged" people in D-158.
My bird's cage needs "filler" and this D-158 "individual board members" letter seems to fill the bill.

GO LARRY. Why should other district parent suffer the same consequences as ours? This school board could probably get the world from parents if they were honest and up front. Instead they do secret business that we don't hear about, spending our money, then telling us we don't have enough with their hands out.
FORENSIC AUDIT BEFORE THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS RUN OUT!!!! I called District 158 and left a message for Terry Awrey, telling him I SUPPORT Larry Snow 100 percent. I urge you to do the same.
Get the corruption and lies out of District 168's board and really do what's right for all children.
GO LARRY!

It's a shame that our D158 School Board members can't even show good example to our children on how to resolve a dispute with someone. They "gang up" up on Larry Snow -- who is the ONLY one that is really trying to help our children!
The money in D158 is misused and mismanaged and it has been PROVEN so by Mr. Snow and by the finance committe. It started with the previous administration and the board members that are still there from the previous administration are "defensive" about everything because they are the BLAME for allowing the Superintendent and his Financial Crony to get away with this! Either they all knew about it OR they did not know enough about running a school that they "rubber stamped" everything those two wanted approved!
They are all embarrassed that they have met someone who actually knows what they are talking about!
Larry, you have a lot of support out here!
Cindy

I SUPPORT LARRY SNOW!!!
He was the ONLY person with enough talent, time and guts to figure out and publicize where the money was/is going.
The other board members are angry that they are being called to the carpet for their mistakes and they are being forced to own up to the hypocrisy they live by.
I am also glad, VERY GLAD to hear that some useless positions are being cut for next years budget. WHAT DO WE NEED WING LEADERS FOR??? They are a worthless positions, worthless...well, unless you thing paying $350,000/year for 4.5 of them doing nothing worth wild!
GO LARRY, you've got my vote and you will always have my vote.
It's high time the rest of them take the hint and bow out gracefully so we can elect a NEW BOARD.
GREAT JOB LARRY SNOW!!!

What's good for the goose?
"Recently, erroneous messages have been sent to many households in District 158.
Paul Halverson, assistant superintendent for financial services, received the International Association of School Business Officials Recognition of Excel-lence in Financial Reporting Award twice. District 158 was one of 53 school districts of more than 880 to receive this award.
Without the referendum, there will be no money to open any of the new schools.
Many things vital to education will be lost.
Opportunities will be lost.
Kim Skaja
District 158 school board member"

Also, "Expect a few changes if you show up to Wednesday's town hall meeting in Huntley Unit District 158.
The meetings are "to see to it that the referendum passes," board member Kim Skaja said. "I don't think we're doing everything we could to get through to people." "
