District 300 Threatens Kids with No Sports or Extracuricullar Activites-Savings Less than 1% (Click to Enlarge)

A local taxpayer advocate compared the cuts in sports and extracurricular activities proposed by the District 300 school board and adminstration. The conclusion was that the $1.25 million to be saved is less than 1% of the district's $135.4 million in the budget for the Education, Operating & Maintenance and Transportation Funds.

Anyone who cannot cut 1% from a budget is not a very good budget person. (And, that conclusion comes from a former United State Bureau of the Budget—now the Office of Management and Budget—budget examiner.)

Threats like District 300’s are commonly used by school districts, but the money projected to be saved is almost a rounding error.
