Major Correction – Or, Did I Really Pass Junior High Math?
I surely blew this one!
So what happened to my mind when I look at the Illinois Department of Public Health abortion statistics for McHenry County on Dec. 27th and somehow read they had increased from 452 in 2003 to 484 in 2004? I reported that local abortions had increased 7%.
Wrong.
When the Northwest Herald published its story today pointing out that the number of abortions had increased SEVEN—not seven percent, as my numbers would show, but seven in all—I went back to the IDPH web site and found the 2004 number was 458, while the 2003 number was 451.
Where did my December 27th numbers come from?
I have no idea.
But, it’s good news that the number of abortions did not increase the 7% I thought they had. Any increase is lamentable, but a 1.6% one is obviously better than 7%.
