Leona Nelson Lawyerless in Fight with Crystal Lake Park District
Eighty-seven year great-grandmother Leona Nelson just wants her day in court.
She was a thorn in the side of the faction solidly in control of the Crystal Lake Park District for almost her entire four-year term as a minority board member.
Right before she was to leave office, Nelson was charged with sexual harassment by a park district supervisor, along with revealing what had been discussed in executive, that is, secret, sessions of the park board. Her “punishment” was to be barred by the board from attending her final meeting, when appreciation plaques are usually presented.
Nelson sued, saying that the board had held her up to public ridicule.
A tabloid should headline the story, “87 year-old great-grandmother accused of sexual harassment and telling all.”
